Sussex Eye Care Hero Receives Honour
In the heart of Sussex, a local hero from Bognor Regis has been celebrated on the King’s New Year Honours List. Awarded the prestigious British Empire Medal (BEM), her remarkable contributions to ophthalmology have not only enhanced lives across Sussex but have also made a significant impact worldwide.
Her illustrious career in eye care began with a qualification in orthoptics from Sheffield, leading her to become an orthoptic teacher and later join the esteemed Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Her passion for eye health knew no bounds, reaching far beyond the UK.
Throughout the 1990s, she collaborated with charities such as Children on the Edge and Iasis, conducting vision screenings in Romanian and Albanian schools. Her volunteer work with Orbis, an international ophthalmology charity, and her involvement with the Brighton Lusaka Health Link in Zambia, where she trained eye health clinicians, highlight her global influence.
At the Sussex Eye Hospital, her leadership has left an enduring legacy. She championed patient-focused care and inspired countless colleagues through her unwavering commitment to excellence. Her work is a shining example of how dedication and compassion can transform lives.
As we celebrate her achievements, we at Burnett's are reminded of the importance of community and commitment. If you're considering making Sussex your home, our team is here to assist you in finding the perfect place to begin your own legacy.
