New Kent Cancer Centre Opening 2028

Exciting news for Kent residents! By 2028, a new Maggie's Centre will be opening its doors at Maidstone Hospital, offering free, tailored support to those affected by cancer. Designed by the talented team at Assemble, this purpose-built facility will provide a comforting sanctuary for patients, their families, and friends. With a kitchen area, one-to-one support rooms, and larger spaces for group activities and exercise classes, the centre will cater to a variety of needs.

The design will celebrate natural and local materials, creating a space that is not only beautiful but also richly atmospheric. This will help foster a sense of familiarity and comfort for those visiting from across Kent. With around 11,000 people diagnosed with cancer in Kent each year, the centre is expected to support 20,000 visits annually.

Maggie's Centres are renowned for their welcoming, no-appointment-necessary approach. Visitors can drop in to speak with fully trained clinical psychologists, benefits advisors, and cancer support specialists. This new centre will be part of Maggie's network of 27 centres across the UK, all located within the grounds of major NHS cancer hospitals.

The fundraising campaign for this £7 million project is in its early stages, but the impact it will have on the local community is immeasurable. As Sarah Kemsley, Chair of Maggie’s Kent Fundraising Board, aptly puts it, "Once in a blue moon you find a truly transformational and beautiful legacy project to be involved with."
