Malaysian Street Food Thrives in Brighton

Roti King, the famed Malaysian street food sensation from London, is making its debut in the heart of Sussex this May. Nestled at 57 Ship Street in the iconic Lanes, this new culinary hotspot is set to spice up the city’s dynamic food scene.

Roti King has garnered a loyal fanbase in Euston for its freshly made roti canai and rich, bold Malaysian flavours. Now, Brighton residents can indulge in these delectable dishes, watching as roti is expertly hand-stretched and cooked to perfection in an open kitchen.

Signature offerings include the must-try roti canai, paired with dhal, chicken, mutton, or fish kari. For noodle lovers, the Char Kway Teow—a delightful mix of chewy rice noodles, prawn, and egg—is a must. And don’t miss the Malaysian fried chicken, marinated in aromatic spices and served with a homemade spicy sambal.

Founder and head chef Sugen Gopal shares his excitement: “Brighton has always been special to me. Its vibrant energy and incredible food culture make it the perfect home for Roti King outside London. I’m thrilled to share our food with such a passionate community.”

Housed in a Grade II-listed building, formerly a 19th-century jewellers, the 50-cover restaurant retains its historic charm. Murals inspired by Malaysian street art add a playful touch, celebrating the joy of great food.

Roti King Brighton opens daily from 12pm to 10pm, operating on a walk-in only basis, with takeaway and delivery options coming soon. For more details, visit Roti King or follow them on Instagram @rotikinguk.
