Festive Firefighters: East Sussex Raises Thousands
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service brought festive joy and community spirit, raising thousands for The Fire Fighters Charity. Through a series of delightful events, local residents and firefighters united to support this worthy cause.
The festivities began at Eastbourne Fire Station on December 21, where the community met Santa, explored a fire engine, and enjoyed mince pies with Eastbourne Silver Band's melodies. This event alone raised an astounding £7,500, thanks to volunteers, cadets, and operational crews.
In Brighton, the annual charity collection at Preston Circus Fire Station on December 19 and 20 saw volunteers and fire crews raising £4,542.32. Station Manager Derek Hamilton praised the public's generosity, highlighting the event's significance.
Hastings' Ridge Fire Station hosted a Santa's Grotto from December 16 to 23, welcoming over 370 children who received gifts from Santa. The event raised £636.79, with all proceeds going to The Fire Fighters Charity. Watch Manager Jamie Wisby expressed gratitude for the community's support.
Newhaven Fire Station's festive fun day on December 6 added £131.96 to the charity pot. Station Manager Louie Wellfare emphasised the importance of community connections. Meanwhile, Heathfield firefighters spread joy by delivering presents on Christmas Eve, raising £60. Uckfield Fire Station's Santa's Grotto collected £344.90, and Rye Fire Station's Christmas Day delivery service brought in £1,685.
